How do I remove fabric/backing from oval back chair?

I bought some wood oval backed chairs; pretty standard, upholstered cushioned seating and upholstered backing (front and back) with wood legs and oval surrounding the backing. I dont see any screws or staples holding the backing in…are thy glued? I am trying to remove so that I can restain the wood. Anyone know how this is done?
Just pry it off. It’s connected with a type of material that has barbed nails protruding. The nails hold the fabric.
