The 2 Must Goals When Building a Chicken Coop

Certain base information will help you to flesh out a chicken coop house plan quite well. But a couple of real important goals need be considered before you start building chicken coops.

You want:

1) A secure and functional home for your chickens 2) A structure you can be proud of – once it’s in your backyard

Chickens are a hybrid animal developed through selective breeding thousands of years ago. (Science believes chickens got their start on the Indian sub-continent when early farmers began domesticating the red and grey “Jungle Fowl). Because of this they are very dependent on human care to survive. But if the right conditions are established – chickens will thrive!

Before you begin constructing a chicken house, there are certain critical areas of design you need to cover.

The chicken coop first and foremost needs to provide basic shelter—that is protection from, rain, snow, cold, excessive heat and wily predators.

Of course there are other things you will want to take into account when building home chicken coops. One such issue is the actual location of the coop in the backyard. There are more than a couple of reasons to give this aspect of placement some reasonable consideration.

Another concern is the orientation of the coop. This is also something you will want to get right the first time. Make the best use of natural light, it has a large impact on the health and behavior of your chickens. Learning this in advance gives you a better understanding of which way the coop should face.

Also you will want to know in advance the optimal location for the nesting boxes, feeders and waterier.

Nesting boxes have to be located and oriented in such a way that the hens don’t roost there to sleep, but are attracted and comfortable laying their eggs there. Secondly it’s nice to have unobtrusive access to quietly remove those eggs.

Chickens have particular needs when it comes to feed and water—not that they’re fussy, they aren’t. But the location (height) of the feed boxes and quality of water supply that are of concern. Chickens need to eat in a certain way and knowing this is important, because it allows you to plan for it during the pre-construction phase making it easy to implement.

When it comes to weather — heat needs to be ventilated away and during “cold snaps”, chickens need to be protected from the wind. They are hearty and can withstand extreme cold, but are very vulnerable to the wind. Knowing this means you must have a well sealed coop to protect against the wind, but one that allows for cooling cross ventilation during the summer.

It might seem overwhelming–a lot of info pouring at you. But really it’s just simple step-by-step method once you are familiar with it. Knowledge is power and knowing this stuff before you start building chicken coops will absolutely save you money, effort and time!!!

This book is about those animals found on the sea floor that live by filtering microscopic particles carried by water currents. Its purpose is to review what is known about the biology of suspension feeders in relation to their flow environment. The book includes the larval biology, physiology, ethology, and ecology of suspension feeders interacting with water flow. It will be of value to marine scientists beginning research in the new, interdisciplinary field of hydrodynamics and benthic biology, and it is the first attempt to provide a comprehensive overview of this synthesis from the biological viewpoint. Feeders by Viljoen, Anita E. [Paperback]

Feeders by Viljoen, Anita E. [Paperback]

$24.74

Sir Robert McKays coven of vampires is known in British Columbia as benevolent and placid. Instead of hunting humans for blood, like many other vampires, they believe in having humans voluntarily donate their blood. These humans have a rare blood disorder that enables them to regenerate blood quickly when first drained, and they then need draining often to survive. These humans are known to vampires as Feeders. Anne Patterson is attacked, left bleeding and broken by a rogue vampire when it unsuccessfully tries to drain her blood. Luc Hastings, a feeder, and his vampire friend and tracker, Roman, find Anne at the side of a deserted road while tracking the rogue. Luc believes Anne to be another feeder, and helps her to accept what she is to the vampires. He finds it difficult to do, as his feelings for her get in the way. Anne feels safe with Luc, but when a vengeful vampire named Sir Raymond Pitout threatens the McKay Coven by taking Anne, things start to go seriously wrong. Luc realizes he cannot keep Anne safe. This scares him, so tries to back away from her. However, Anne proves her love for him by saving his life. Is her effort enough? Firsttime author Anita E. Viljoen has always been interested in vampires. Originally from Pretoria, South Africa, she now lives in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada. Her favorite time to write is late at night during the witching hour. Publishers Web site: http://www.strategicpublishinggroup.com/title/Feeders.html Author: Viljoen, Anita E.
