Saw Chewers
few questions about lab puppy ???

I bought a new lab retreiver puppy few days back…and to be honest I am owning a dog for very first time.. so if u could help me a little bit about few things
What could I use to clean paws of my puppy when we come back from a walk ?
Sometimes I notice that she starts scratching back of her ear and biting her tail repeatedly ..is this okay or is warning of something bad ???
She is big chewer like all lab puppies I guess ..so I saw in petstore some toy bones with beef and chicken flavor ?? are they okay to use ??
She is only 8 weeks old how much puppy chow wud be sufficient for her ? how cud I know if she is over fed or underfed ?? what else I can give her to eat except puppy chow ? can I give her some milk ? if yes what kind of milk wud be good for her …….
Anything else u wanna tell me plz let me know
Thanks to all of u guys in advance ………

1. Wiping her paws with a sponge or cloth is fine — it’s good to get her used to it early. My dog stops and waits for me to wipe her feet because I do it all the time.
2. Scratching and biting is a sign of fleas — check with a vet for the proper medication to use for a puppy. Don’t bother with any of the stuff in pet stores — it doesn’t work.
3. Chewy toys are good, but make sure they don’t break apart into chunks that she could swallow and choke on.
4. At 8 weeks, I would just put out some food and let her judge how much to eat. Avoid cow’s milk — it really isn’t good for her.

Another bit of advice: start obedience training early (but keep it simple to start). One important habit to break is “nipping”, which puppies will do naturally. I’ve found that the best way to break that habit is to hold the puppy’s lower jaw in one hand, and press down GENTLY with your thumb on her tongue until she gives a little yelp. This isn’t cruel; it’s like a pinch. But it will discourage her from nipping, which is important as she gets bigger.

Also, try and expose her to as many new situations/people/noises as possible. If she acts frightened, don’t pamper her. Make her sit through it until she realizes there’s nothing to be afraid of.

Hope you have fun — I have with my puppy (now 9 months old).
