Pigeon Brooders
Would this effect the temp in any way?

Kay for those who answered my pigeon questions in the past, I know this is probably gettin’ old but here goes:

I’m thinking of raising a pigeon from a friend, at some point(possibly during the summer). I know if it’s raised from an egg it’ll need a brooder until its feathers grow in, though where I live(Nevada) the temps have been getting up to 99-100 sometimes up to 103-104. With the temps being the way they are the air conditioner has been running day & night, though sometimes we turn off and use fans. but would this effect the temp of the brooder in any way?

would like to know.

thanks!

And another thing…

no jokes or ridiculous answers allowed!

You will need to buy or make a brooder. You can use a deep box or something like an old aquarium works well. You need a high wattage light bulb, or preferably, a regular heat lamp like ones used for baby chicks, they are red and not so bright as a regular bulb. You need to keep the temperature constant between 85 and 92 F. Put a thermometer in the bottom of your brooder and adjust the temperature by raising or lowering you heat lamp until you get the temperature right before putting your bird into the brooder. I’m going to give you a link about total care of the baby birds, You may not need it but is interesting reading. Good Luck.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Rock Pigeon (Columba livia), or Rock Dove, is a member of the bird family Columbidae (doves and pigeons). In common usage, this bird is often simply referred to as the pigeon. The species includes the domestic pigeon (including the fancy pigeon), and escaped domestic pigeons have given rise to the Feral Pigeon. Wild Rock Pigeons are pale grey with two black bars on each wing, although domestic and feral pigeons are very variable in colour and pattern. There are few visible differences between males and females. The species is generally monogamous, with two squabs (young) per brood. Both parents care for the young for a time. Habitats include various open and semiopen environments, including agricultural and urban areas. Cliffs and rock ledges are used for roosting and breeding in the wild. Originally found wild in Europe, North Africa, and western Asia, feral Rock Pigeons have become established in cities around the world. The species is abundant, with an estimated population of 17 to 28 million feral and wild birds in Europe. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Pheasant Pigeon (Otidiphaps nobilis) is a large terrestrial pigeon found in the primary rainforests of New Guinea and nearby islands. It ranges primarily over hilly and lower mountain areas, but can also be found in lowlands. The pheasant pigeon is an unusual pigeon of uncertain affinities within the Columbidae, and is monotypic within the genus Otidiphaps (Gould, 1870), and the subfamily Otidiphabinae. Its scientific name makes reference to its similarities to the bustard family (Otidae). Its common name reflects its adaptation to living on the forest floor in the fashion of a South East Asian pheasant, which it resembles in external morphology, particularly in its laterally compressed tail and the rounded wings. No galliform birds occur in New Guinea, and the pheasant pigeon has filled the ecological niche of a partridge or small pheasant (while the larger Goura crowned pigeons have a lifestyle similar to larger pheasants, grouse or turkeys). It is a highly secretive species, feeding on seeds and fallen fruits. It nests on the ground below trees and bushes, laying one egg that it incubates for around 4 weeks. Pigeon Racing

Pigeon Racing

$58.94

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Pigeon racing is a sport involving the release of specially trained racing pigeons, which then return to their homes over a carefully measured distance. The time it takes the animal to cover the specified distance is measured and the birds rate of travel is calculated and compared with all of the other pigeons in the race to determine which animal returned at the highest speed. Pigeon racing involves the flying of a specific breed of pigeon specifically bred for the sport, the Racing Homer . Competing pigeons are specially trained and conditioned for races that vary in distance for approximately to 100 to 1000 km. The winner of a pigeon race is the bird with the highest velocity, measured in ypm/mpm, this calculation demands the distance be divided in to yards, divide the yards by the number of SECONDS it took the bird to return then multiply by 60. Therefore Races can often be won and lost by seconds, and to measure this, many different timing apparatus have been developed.
