How much daily interaction do sun conures need daily?

WHats a good way to interact with them? Should i buy one of those portable perches? Please help

Like all parrots, conures are social birds. They require daily interaction with their social group…which in this case is you and anyone else who lives there…or else they will become bored and develop behavioral problems.

By the sound of your question you have more than one, is that the case? If so, they can keep each other company which lessens the role you play. But they still require stimuli that only you can provide. Make sure they have plenty of fresh food, veggies, fruits (which entertain as well as nourish). They need lots of “out time.” A variety of toys and or play gyms keeps them occupied too.

Remember that in the wild, they would *never* leave the company of their flockmates, and basically never stop playing or exploring. So basically you can’t send too much time with them, and if you just have 1 bird 1 hour is not enough.

Ideally someone should be at home several hours a day at a minimum, preferably someone should be home most of the day. I would recommend that there be people at home, with the bird, for at least several hours every day or the majority of days.

It’s best to keep your pet conure(s) where the center of activity is, for example your living room or den or what have you. You can leave the cage door open or allow your bird to be on a playpen whenever someone is at home (just make sure your home is bird safe and never let him get up to unsupervised mischief). During this time some direct interaction should be provided, such as talking to him, petting him, or just having him on your shoulder while you surf the internet, watch tv or go about your other activities.
