Palm placement and how it pertains to guitar speed?
After sitting at a decent speed for some odd years, I’ve decided that I’m going to dedicate myself to increasing it so that i can actually call myself a shredder. Problem is, I’ve taught myself since around age 10 (17 now) and no one ever really told me how and where exactly to position my palm when playing. I’ve been placing it on the bridge of my Razorback right where the strings start to recede into the body.
I’ve been anchoring as well (I know this is a bad habit) because whenever I try to have my hand float across the strings, i tend to miss a lot and not pick as fast.
Any advice would be appreciated
Sorry i should have specified. I was talking about my picking hand, not my fretting hand. My left hand is perfectly fine actually. Sorry for any confusion
Thank you for all of your responses
there are different schools of thought for fast lead playing. Let me describe what works for me. For faster playing my hand will float above the rear pickup anchored by my ring finger on the edge of the pickup. It is placed almost at the front corner of the pickup ring. I hold the pick at a right angle to the strings for fast picking and this allows me to use the tip of the pick and economy of motion. I use pointed picks for extra articulation and speed. This technique took years to develop. For a better look check out my video link. I am playing four original compositions and each has some good footage of this technique.
