Can you do finger waves on natural black hair?

I am of mixed race & my hair swings a little more the the black side. Ive been wanting to do fingerwaves in the front wit my natural curls in the back but my waves just frizz up! Is it not possible to do it on my hair? 3c hair type.. let me know! && please dont put your input if you dont know anything about BLACK HAIR. thanks!
