Tethers for medium sized pet birds?
Ok, odd question but I have looking into falconing before (decided that I should learn to take care of small pet birds first) and have seen that they are often tethered in a heat shed in the winter or in a large yard in the summer. I realize that a small bird would be threatened by predators and it isn’t a parrots natural habitat but I was wondering if there was something like this for, say, a parrot? Or do they train well enough come outside without being tied? If anybody have some info about this I would appreciate it, Thanks
Note: I do not own a bird as of yet I just want to have all my questions answered before I have a bird and freak out 
Parrots can’t be “tethered” like birds of prey. Birds of prey have much stronger legs. A parrot is a prey animal, and it will wind up breaking one or both of it’s legs in an effort to escape.
Flight suits are made for parrots with attached leash, but most birds hate them, and will attempt to escape or chew them off. If you’re going to use them at all, flight suit training is recommended for very young birds. With enough time and patience, some birds can be trained to wear them.
If you want a parrot – treat it like a parrot. Please research the specific parrot, and attend to it’s exact needs. Stop thinking about birds-of-prey. Buy a cage and accessories designed for parrots. If you want to bring it outdoors, use a bird-safe and secure aviary, or keep it’s flight feathers trimmed. Your bird should NEVER be left unattended or uncaged outdoors.
