what does jo 08 14 11 leg band stand for?

i just saw my lovebird’s leg band and i’m thinking it means Nov-14-2008.
is that right??

That’s just one of many possibilities and probably the least likely. Assuming the band was applied in the U.S, it’s highly unlikely the date would be written in that order. Somewhere other than the U.S, maybe. The problem with leg bands is they are not nearly as helpful as one might think. The only ones that may lead you to any useful information are those that also carry the initials of the organization which issued them. For example if a Cockatiel breeder is a member of the National Cockatiel Association and gets their bands from them, there will be an NCS on the band along with the other information. Sometimes the numbers may indicate a hatch date. Most times they are numbers used only for the breeder to keep records of chicks, who hatched from which parents and in what order and so on. Some bands in the U.S. also have the abbreviation of the state where the breeder operates. If the band has other information such as some initials of an association, you might be able to trace it through them by sending them the information. Otherwise, you are probably not going to learn much from it. Sorry but that’s just the way it is with bands.
