I need some advice on hatching chicken eggs?
I am trying to naturally hatch some chicken eggs. All the stuff i read on the internet talks about nesting boxes, but my chicken just crack the eggs, so i decided to just have them try and hatch them in a nest on the ground. So far she hasn’t cracked them. But she burried them under some dirt and hay and i think she lays on them at night.I was wondering if that was what she is supposed to do since i can’t find any info on the internet.
yes i have 2 roosters that can breed
!) do you have a rooster? if you dont then the eggs are not fertile
2) her eggs are not fertile
3) she is a bad mother and some hens do smash/eat their own eggs or do not want to sit on them.
she should be laying on them most of the day and night, and turning them. If she is not a good mother then you can buy another broody hen (some breeds are better mothers like Bantams) and put your chickens eggs under her to raise.
Broodys rarely get off the nest, some you have to leave food/water right next to her so she can reach because she wont leave the nest. Either that or buy/borrow a chicken egg incubator and hand raise them.
