England Cricket coach?

Seeing as Graham Ford has taken himself out of the running and with Andy Flower under alot of pressure due to Englands recent defeats, can the England team be called a burden upon coaches/possible coaches ?
Who do you think will eventually take on the role as England coach?

yeah Murphy , but they did just win the Calcutta cup with Martin Johnson as coach – isnt that a plus?

Graham Ford was very keen on the job, but wanted assurances from the ECB that he would have the backing of the players, having seen what happened to Peter Moores. As the ECB have been dithering for months, he has stepped out of the race.

Andy Flower initially said he wasn’t interested, but then changed his mind. However, results under him haven’t been great, and his stint as batting coach does not give the impression that the would be any great shakes as head coach: England only score runs on flat tracks, and there have been far too many collapses.

Tom Moody was an early front runner, he has rule himself out as he does not wish to uproot his family.

Ashley Giles is the other of the four main candidates who is still in the reckoning. I sincerely hope they don’t choose him; he was a joke as a player, his coaching experience is limited, and he is too close to many of the senior players. It would all be too chummy, and England need a new direction.

Michael Vaughan is another whose name has been mentioned. But he lacks coaching experience, is (allegedly!) still playing, and still wanting a recall as a player, and I am awaiting his “David Icke” moment where he declares himself to be the Son of God, so insane has he become, and full of his own self-importance.

Other candidates:

John Buchanan, the former Australia coach. Great record in charge of the Baggy Greens, but debate rages as to how effective he really was. His spell in charge of Middlesex in the late 90′s was disastrous, and his unorthodox methods may not go down well with England.

John Dyson, the current West Indian coach. Has done a good job of turning their fortunes around, has a proven track record, and should be a man the ECB would be wise to court.

Stephen Fleming, the former New Zealand captain. A real left-field selection, as he has barely any coaching experience, but his 10 years at the helm of New Zealand, a very average side, shows that he knows how to gain respect, and make the best use of resources.

Mike Watkinson, the Lancashire Director of cricket. Has a good county record,, although his lack of trphies could be a problem.

Dav Whatmore, the former Sri lanka and Lancashire coach. Won the World Cup with Sri Lanka in 1996, and turned them into a good side. Also did well with Lancashire, and knows English players and conditions, and has a wealth of international experience.

Greg Chappell and Rodney Marsh. Imagine those two masterminding the downfall of Australia during this summers Ashes!

Is the England team a burden on possible England coache? No, I would imagine it is one of the most sought after jobs in cricket.

Who will get the job? I suspect they will try and persuade Andy Flower. I would like them to have a look at some of the English coaches, such as Geoff Cook, Martyn Moxon, Mike Newell or Tim Boon, but they will probably shy away from them due to them not having a big name impact.
