halides make very good leaving groups so probably not to much in the body that perfers controled settings with enzymes.

my best quess of it’s orgin is salt in alcohol and some acid. To create a very reactive substance.

As far as firepower, it just comes from how reactive they are. Which gives of a lot of energy when they react.
