Cat sleeping in/near food bowl

I have two older cats, Chewy is 16, and Jinx is 15. Chewy is Jinx’s mother, and in thier old age, they get a long fairly well. A kind of “you don’t bother me, i don’t bother you” mentality (of course my 1 year old kitten doesn’t get this concept) Anyway, i find that they will often sleep near, or even with thier head in the food bowl. I have a 5lb feeder, and a 1 gallon waterer, so they always have fresh food and water. They are kind of tucked back in the corner, and jinx is sleeping inbetween the two feeders right now. I don’t imagine its comfortable, there is always cat food spilled all over the floor, which she is probably sitting on. They are just weird.

Their food bowl seems to be a source of comfort to them. As long as they don’t seem harmed by this I wouldn’t worry about it.
The other thing may be going on here is the older cats may be guarding the bowl from your 1 year old kitten, feeling that she is an interloper in the house and not very welcome. If this is the case you may need to set out another food bowl for the kitten.
