Can I house my Sun Conure with his old buddy, (in the same cage) a black headed Caique?
When I bought my Sun Conure a month ago (he will be a year old in April), he was kept in the same cage as a Caique. They seemed to be real good buddies and they loved to play together! Now that we left the Caique behind (he will be a year old in June), I am feeling a little bad for it. If I were to get the Caique, I would have to put them in the same cage. The cage I have for my Sun is 32″W x 24″ D, and I am not sure how high it is, maybe 46″ just including the cage, not the playtop or anything. So you can imagine this cage is plenty big enough for a Sun. But would this even be safe, even though they were caged together before? Will they even recognize eachother and be friends again? Your conures life has changed a lot whilst being with you, you are his flock & its his cage. I would never recomend putting them together straight away but I do think you would be doing the right thing getting the bird. You need another cage for the first few weeks, could you borrow one, buy a small one just for nightime e.c.t.Your birds could have their cages moved closer over a period of time & that way you wont get the territotial issues. Your bird will be dominant now as its his home- he may not accept the other one straight away full on. Perhaps the could play together during the day supervised & then go their seperate cages at night. That way your there to sort out any disagreements they have.o be on the safe side I would treat them as strangers in the begining & take their lead from there.
