Please tell me reasons why, not suggestions.
Why to get each of these birds?
Lovebirds
Small parrots, can make good companions. However, apparently they can be difficult to keep tame and you really need to keep on top of handling them every day. They are medium noise parrots, and generally poor talkers. Very pretty though.
Cockatiels
Small parrots, great first birds. Males can make good talkers. They are playful and cuddly, and easier to handle compared to other parrots (they have a reflex where they will step onto whatever you put right in front of them – it’s very much a cockatiel thing). Generally, they are sweet natured. They are low noise parrots.
Zebra Finch
Can’t be handled, are more for looking at. Do best in a good sized aviary rather than a cage. They are beautiful and make a cute noise and come in many different mutations. Breeding them is really fun, especially when trying to get certain, rarer mutations. Make sure there is plenty of room for the babies though.
Canary
Same with the zebra finch, more for looking at. The males have a really lovely song.
