Can dogs be depressed? And if so, how do I cheer her up?
Recently, the older of my two dogs passed away and now, the younger one, Skye, is acting strange.
She’s a lot more lethargic than before, and just stares at things for a long time. She also refuses to play with me, even her favorite chew-toy doesn’t interest her. She also eats less.
Is she depressed from her friend’s death or is she sick, and the timing just coincidence?
How do I make her cheer up? Any ideas?
Dogs do get depressed, especially when a member of the pack passes away. Try taking her to do some of her favorite things. Car rides? The dog park? getting out of the house would be best for her. Eventually she’ll perk back up. With animals its usually out of sight, out of mind. Another doggie friend might help her. You dont have to buy another dog, but maybe set up play dates with a friends dog, or a dog you meet at the dog park. just give her extra TLC she’s just lost a family member.
