How to get my cockatiel out of the cage?
My cockatiel likes her cage too much. She comes to the door and enjoys me being near her, but she won’t come out of the cage for exercise or to play. The only time she comes out she flys. I have clipped her wings but after flying she goes back to her cage at the door, or just goes in. How can i get her out safely? She also steps up some times but only when there is a treat in her face the whole time.
You can try a few ways..
You can buy a cheap small bird ladder, and put the ladder attatched to your cockatiels cage door, and the other end leading out to the inside of your horse. I suggest leaving the cage door open at all times, so it can see that there is no harm when it goes outside. It’s not that your cockatiel likes its cage so much, its just that there is no where else to go since it is afraid being OUTSIDE the cage. Try teaching it to be happy, and not afraid when it is outside of his cage. And everytime it steps out, or make an attempt to, give it a treat.
Trust me, it will work it you give your cockatiel time and patience, and of course treats! My cockatiel loves his cage too, he won’t come out! But when I put him on TOP of his cage, he chirps and sings happily as if he likes it better up there. So you can also try putting your bird on top of his/her cage, it might like it better since the bird will have more open space and it can spread his wings out!
