Tradition Fusee Tourbillon in Platinum
At Basel 2010, Breguet has pleasantly debuted some of the most remarkable novelties that should delight all the pretentious connoisseurs of luxury timepieces.
Inspired by the design of the first tourbillon-equipped pocket watches created by Breguet, a platinum version is currently obtainable fitted with a movement shielded in an anthracite-toned metal alloy. Representing the combination of traditional design with innovative materials, the watch also boasts a tourbillon and fusee-and-chain transmission.
The brand new creation comes thoroughly with a novel Breguet silicon balance spring. Breguet has a long history of innovating with the balance spring, and in 2006 it unveiled its first wristwatches with silicon balance springs and escapements. The balance spring is an important component of the heart of a watch movement. It is also the most decisive in terms of enhancing the accuracy of time-measuring mechanisms. Usually made of metal, it is vulnerable to shocks, magnetic fields and even the pull of gravity, which can cause warping. Silicon balance springs are lighter than metal ones and thus less prone to warping caused by the pull of gravity. They are also highly resistant to corrosion and friction as well as impervious to rust.
The round case is coated in 950 Platinum with perfectly fluted caseband. Rather than simply putting the known movement from the 37mm version into a larger case, Breguet redesigned the movement, resulting in a larger dial and greatly enhanced legibility. The ruthenium-coated bridges and cocks contribute to its contemporary look, and fit splendidly with the tourbillon cage and balance wheel manufactured from titanium.
In a word, the Breguet Tradition Fusee Tourbillon in platinum is definitely a remarkable timepiece.
