one of my finches is breathing heavy and sits on the bottom of cage but when i go in it sits on perch?

Hello. It’s not unusual for a sick bird to “perk up” when someone approaches. In the wild, predators usually seek out sick or injured animals as prey, so it is always in an animal’s “best interests” to appear healthy.
Unfortunately, the symptoms you describe are common to many very different ailments, i.e. respiratory disease, egg-binding, etc. The only sure way to determine what’s wrong is to take the birds to a veterinarian. Please write back if you need a reference to a bird vet in your area, and I’ll try to help.
