I wan’t to create a large cage for my two pet Cockatiels but require materials to fence them in?

I have an enclosure used for plants that is about 10 feat by 10 feat but I need actual fence/ or steel net type of materials to actually enclose the structure and turn it into a cage.

Any suggestions? I have looked for large cages at pet stores but they are either too small or too expensive.

A lot of research I am doing says to use glavanized wire (cleaned thoroughly before hand to remove any zinc or oil coatings) NO BIGGER than 1/2″ mesh (their little heads can get caught) or a pvc coated galvanized wire… however, if your cockatiels are big chewers, I would try to find alternative materials. Whatever you do, just be SURE the materials (mesh, net, wire, wood) are safe for birds, specifically cockatiels and that if you are planning to keep this cage outside at all that it be completely predator proof. Hawks will crash into to cages, attempt to open them (sometimes successfully) to get at their food source, so you can never be too careful.

I belong to a great bird board on the net (www.theperch.net) that I highly recommend to any bird owner I meet. You can become a member and ask any and all the questions you may ever have re: your cockatiels and get quick knowledgeable responses from some great people. Alternatively, you may ask for some inexpensive sources of larger flight cages. That might be your best bet at this point, to ask people who have cockatiels and have built or bought their cages themselves. I absolutely consider this site “worth it’s weight in gold”.
