why is my new parakeet so d*amn scared?

i got it yesterday, & so far all it did was just stand there on the poles in my rather large birdcage (a house shape!) shaking. i plan on getting more later but before that happens my parakeet needs to be ‘trained’. my mom & i tried getting it to ‘step up’ on the finger but it just looks or moves away. it most likely didn’t eat anything yet either. it chirped too, but its still too scared to do anything with you!
im already getting agitated & feel like “giving up” on it. still, i do like it & care about it, but its getting annoying that it’s doing practically NOTHING (staying mostly in the same spot throughout the day). it seems like the bird will always be this way!

what can i do to stop this bird’s annoying behavior? i WILL get more parakeets later for its sake. how long until the bird will gain confidence & trust in the family? what are we doing wrong with it (my parents have this habit of arguing at eachother or talking loud, i dont know how to stop that)

Don’t worry to much about that its just getting used to its surrondings. During the first few days they dont move around much they tremble alot and they are scared because they dont know whats going on.Just give it some time.When u change its food and water try like talking to it,and don’t try the finger thing yet do it later on.Try keeping its cage in one spot and dont open the cage yet cause youll frighten it.After like 2 weeks it will get used to everything and start exploring its cage just give it time and dont freak out.
